Dr. George Yeakey
Dr. George Yeakey, adjunct instructor in Human Resource Management at AIU Online, is not only an expert in all areas of human resource management, he's been teaching the subject and others for over 30 years in secondary schools and colleges.
Joining the Army upon his graduation with a B.S. in Psychology/Sociology from Middle Tennessee State University, Yeakey spent several years living in Europe, the Middle East and Latin America as well the States. He holds an M.A. in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma and a M.S. in Systems Management from University of Southern California as well as a D.B.A. in Human Resource Management from Nova Southeastern University. A member of The Society of Human Resource Management and the National Business Educators Association, Yeakey has been listed in "Whose Who Among American Teachers" for three years in a row. All of this academic expertise and his personal experience with continuing education have given him a keen sense of what constitutes a good academic environment for professionals. He clearly feels that AIU Online makes the grade.
"AIU Online gets the 'college experience' better than any online course I am aware of," claims Yeakey. "Taking the best of brick and mortar schools, then combining quality education with the most advanced technology available, AIU Online gives students a true sense of the kind of campus community found in traditional institutions, no matter where they are."
"In some ways, I think learning at AIU Online offers students a special advantage," Yeakey observed. "Just last week I was at a state university where stadium seating at lectures is the norm. Students rarely interface directly with their professors in this setting. In fact, they seem to put more effort in cultivating a relationship with the Teaching Assistant who actually did the grading than they did getting to know their instructor or each other. It is NOT like this at AIU Online."
"Our students enjoy a one-on-one environment where they can constantly learn from instructors and their classmates. We offer two hours of live classes per week and a dedicated hour when students can visit my office. The discussion board is my high-intensity venue for interacting with students as we look at a different issue each week."
After Dr. Yeakey retired from the Army, he opened his own travel agency, Strata World Travel, which he continues to operate in addition to teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Organizational Behavior, Business, and Human Resource Management at AIU Online.
According to Dr. Yeakey, "Running a business while teaching keeps me on the 'cutting edge' of my industry because I'm always looking out for what's new in the subject areas that I teach. Using my past experiences as a springboard, I try to take my students on a journey of discovery into the future. This combination of the old (my experiences) and the new (our work in class) gives the students - and me - a broad perspective. It provides a real life context for the work we do in class that goes far beyond an academic exercise. The experience allows us to embrace, understand, and, ideally, even take the lead in today's changing, fast-paced business environment."
