Degree programs to help students focus on specific areas of curriculum

HOUSTON – March 22, 2010 – American InterContinental University Houston is proud to announce new concentrations for its Bachelor of Information Technology degree program, beginning today.

The revamped program offers students five new concentration options, including general, computer forensics, security, networks and programming. This career-focused curriculum provides strong opportunities for those seeking further education or a degree in information technology. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that employment of computer network, systems, and database administrators at the national level will climb by 30 percent from 2008 to 2018, “much faster than the average for all occupations.” Local employment markets will vary.

“As a university that strives to provide a quality, career-focused education, we’re thrilled to be bringing additional information technology choices in curriculum to our students,” said Stephen Malutich, president of AIU Houston. “Our degree program features industry-relevant courses taught by faculty members who have career experience in key fields. Our goal is to help prepare students to become qualified professionals in the information technology field.”

The general concentration helps students gain a fundamental understanding of IT concepts related to the knowledge of programming, operating systems, networking and databases that can be used to build a foundation for their careers, while each of the remaining four concentrations allows students to focus on specific areas of interest.

The security concentration targets students who want experience in major areas of system and network assurance and security, while computer forensics focuses on digital and network investigations. Additionally, the networks concentration is designed for students interested in major areas of network operations and administration, and the programming concentration gives students a taste of software engineering and application development.

In addition to its information technology program, AIU Houston offers business administration degrees at the associate, bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as bachelor’s degrees in visual communication and criminal justice.
