American InterContinental University Houston Hosts Grand Reopening Ceremony on February 19 and Announces Criminal Justice Degree Program

HOUSTON – January 27, 2009 – American InterContinental University Houston (AIU) will host a post-Hurricane Ike Grand Reopening and Launch of its new Criminal Justice program on February 19 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the AIU campus, 9999 Richmond Avenue in Houston. The event is free and open to the public. Learn first-hand about all of AIU’s programs and tour the newly rebuilt classrooms, learning facilities and bookstore. The honorable Adrian Garcia, Sheriff of Harris County, will be the featured keynote speaker. Houston’s first Hispanic Sheriff, Garcia is a veteran police officer and has served as director of the Mayor’s Anti-Gang Office and as a City Councilman overseeing public safety and homeland security.

We are extremely honored to have Sheriff Garcia as our guest to introduce AIU’s new Criminal Justice program,” said AIU Houston President Stephen Malutich. “Our degree program features industry-relevant courses taught by faculty members who have had career experience in this key field and our goal is to prepare students to become qualified criminal justice professionals.”

The new Bachelor of Science degree program in Criminal Justice (BSCJ), with a concentration in general criminal justice is designed to help students prepare for exciting careers as a:

  • Police Officer
  • Private Detective
  • Director of Security
  • Probation or Parole Officer
  • Insurance Fraud Investigator

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, over the next six years the Criminal Justice field is projected to grow annually by more than 32,000 full- and part-time jobs. AIU offers a comprehensive approach to general criminal justice to help students acquire a deeper knowledge of the adult and juvenile justice processes, criminology, law enforcement, the court system and corrections. Courses include:

  • Drugs and Crime
  • Criminal Investigation
  • Criminal Justice Administration
  • Probation and Parole

In addition to its Criminal Justice program, AIU Houston offers business degrees at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as a bachelor’s degree in visual communication.
