Houston - Congressman Al Green’s (D-TX) message to students at American InterContinental University (AIU) was clear: education is the key to a better future. Explaining that he was encouraged by his parents to dream big, he credits their support as well as studying hard for his career success. While visiting the AIU Houston campus during the August congressional recess, Congressman Green met both with students and faculty members.

“Both the faculty and students were honored that Congressman Green took time out of his busy schedule to visit our university,” said Stephen Malutich, president of the AIU Houston campus. “Encouragement from successful role models is extremely beneficial to students who are planning their career paths.”

Speaking to three AIU classes, he encouraged students to keep learning, noting that it takes commitment, sacrifice and hard work, but that they can do it and that the outcome can lead to great success. He also answered questions about his background and how he entered politics.

Congressman Green then met with AIU faculty and a smaller group of students for an in-depth discussion about the need to make post-secondary education affordable for more students, acknowledging that AIU helps prepare its students for careers. He also discussed the importance of everyone’s role in the community. In addition, Congressman Green discussed his homeless veterans' bill and the need for alternative fuels to benefit not only Houston, but the country.

“Students learn by seeing first-hand what others have achieved,” added Malutich. “That’s what AIU stresses with our career-focused curriculum.”
