U.S. Supermodel Caprice and American InterContinental University Celebrate Thanksgiving with a Meal for the Homeless
November 30, 2010
LONDON (November 30, 2010) - Students from American InterContinental University London, along with U.S. supermodel Caprice and Channel 4’s, Gok’s Fashion Fix fashion expert, American Brix Smith-Start celebrated their heritage for the American holiday, Thanksgiving on 25 November, by providing a meal at noon for the homeless.
The meal that consists traditionally of turkey, potatoes, vegetables and gravy was provided to more than 80 homeless women at the Marylebone Project, based on Daventry Street, Marylebone. The Marylebone Project works with vulnerable homeless women to help empower them towards independent living through making informed choices.
Dr. Randolf Cooper, vice president of academic affairs at AIU London said: “Thanksgiving arrived in America with the Pilgrims in the autumn of 1621, when the 53 surviving Pilgrims celebrated their successful harvest, as was the English custom. Today Americans celebrate Thanksgiving without a religious connotation; the emphasis is on abundance and family. We are happy to share that spirit with the community and delighted that our students can be involved in supporting a local charity such as the Marylebone Project.”
Students from AIU London, also based in Marylebone on Marylebone High Street, were on hand to help serve the Thanksgiving meal. Supermodel Caprice, who is renowned for being an all American girl, plus fellow American, fashion expert Brix Smith-Start, also joined in the festivities by helping to carve the giant turkey.
Caprice said: “Thanksgiving is close to my heart. I had a great time sharing the spirit of Thanksgiving with the women of the Marylebone Project.”
