AIU Online Ranked Number One in Associate Business Degrees Granted to African Americans

CHICAGO, August 6, 2009 – The racial gap in higher education is narrowing as an increasing number of minority students are enrolling in college. In fact, in 2005, about 5 million minorities enrolled in higher education, up from 3.4 million in 1995 – an increase of 50 percent. Diverse Issues in Higher Education annually ranks the top degree granting schools to minorities and today American InterContinental University (AIU) Online announced that it ranked among the top five in several categories for the 2006‐2007 school year.

AIU Online ranked among the top 100 associate and bachelor’s degree producers in more than 18 categories including:

  • the number one ranking college for associate business degrees granted to African Americans, with 873 degrees awarded;
  • the number two ranking college for associate business degrees granted to all minorities, with 1,227 degrees awarded; and
  • the number two ranking college for bachelor’s in computer and information sciences (CIS) degrees granted to American Indians; in this category AIU also ranked fourth for total minority, fourth for African Americans and fifth for Hispanics.

“American InterContinental University strives to better the lives of our students through education,” said Steve Tober, CEO of American InterContinental University and President of AIU Online. “We are proud to serve a wide range of minority groups that have typically been under‐represented in higher education.”

American InterContinental University was also featured in the Top 100 Degree Producers list in 2008. The rankings were released in the June 25th edition of Diverse Issues in Higher Education.
