American InterContinental University Online Celebrates Graduation at Navy Pier in Chicago

CHICAGO, October 29, 2009- More than 200 graduates of American InterContinental University (AIU) Online crossed the stage at the Navy Pier Ballroom in Chicago to receive their diplomas on Oct. 10. Steve Tober, AIU CEO and President of AIU Online, delivered the commencement speech, advising graduates, “you only get one ride…take the time to relish every view and make the very most of what this ride provides.”
“Think about how you can serve other individuals in all facets of your life,” said Tober. “I guarantee that your journey and all the goals you achieve will be much more rewarding when you engage in a sincere effort of ervice. By making a difference in the lives of those you touch and influence, knowingly or unknowingly, you will make a significant difference in your own.”
Sharing the honor of commencement speaker was graduate and AIU employee Debra Burson. A recipient of a master’s degree in education, Burson was chosen by the university to represent the graduating class as the student speaker. Burson congratulated her fellow classmates on their accomplishments and challenged them to continue pursuing their goals.
“You have the ability to accomplish great things,” Burson told her fellow graduates. “Believe in yourself and your dreams, because the dreams you dream today will become tomorrow’s realities.”
The most popular degree awarded was the bachelor of business administration followed by associate of arts in business administrtion. Degrees ranging from bachelor to master’s in eight different programs were awarded. Online students from across the U.S. attended the ceremony in Chicago, as well as one who travelled from the Bahamas.
