Student designers and models preview original couture to support the Food For the Poor relief effort in Haiti
WESTON, Fla. – The School of Fashion Marketing and Design at American InterContinental University (AIU) presents the Winter Wonderland Fashion Show on Friday, December 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the campus, located at 2250 N. Commerce Parkway in Weston.
Aspiring AIU fashion-design students will display colorful, original holiday fashions, modeled by students from area high schools including Flannigan and Cypress Bay.
Free and open to the public, the holiday fashion extravaganza will support the Food For the Poor, Inc. relief effort to collect food and clothing for the people of Haiti, ravaged this summer by four tropical storms, culminating with Hurricane Ike which destroyed nearly 60 percent of the country's harvest and left entire cities uninhabitable. Established in 1982, Food For the Poor provides relief throughout the Caribbean and Central America.
AIU asks all who are able to bring canned goods and gently used clothing to help the many in Haiti who now are homeless.
“Reaching out to help those in need is so important, especially during the December holiday season which exemplifies the meaning of giving,” said Juanita Alcena, chair of the AIU Fashion and Marketing Design program, who was born and raised in Haiti. “Our fashion show provides a great opportunity for AIU students to help people who truly are in need while they showcase their original couture. The Fashion show also gives AIU and area high school students a chance to work together together to create this fun community event for a good cause.”
Music and refreshments will round out the evening. For more information, contact Karla Lopez at 954-446-6323.
