Complimentary Resources Available to Individuals Seeking Higher Education

Weston, Fla., October 6, 2009‐ Today AIU South Florida, in partnership with Mujeres Latinas, announced an educational workshop series designed for Hispanic individuals looking to broaden their knowledge base and explore the world of higher education.

“We are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with AIU by giving area Hispanics the opportunity to learn about topics ranging from family health to fashion design,” said Linda Gomes, president, Mujeres Latinas. “We’re hoping to demonstrate how they can achieve personal success through higher education.”

Participants will learn about family health in the “Health Panel Q&A” and explore fields of study including information technology, criminal justice, fashion design and marketing, and interior design. Participants will also benefit from a special session on financial aid, learning about scholarships, available loans and grants and how to apply for them.

“We are excited to have community members and AIU experts share their expertise with the Hispanic community,” said Karla Lopez, AIU marketing director.

Complimentary AIU Workshops include:

  • Commissionaires Inauguration and Health Panel Q & A – Wednesday, October 21st A panel comprised of doctors, surgeons and nutrition experts in pediatrics, dermatology and oncology will answer your health questions. The difference between Medicare and Medicaid will also be discussed as well as options for those who do not have health insurance.
  • Financial Aid; Scholarships, Loans, Grants and More – Thursday, October 22nd Learn about scholarships and loans available to eligible individuals as well as other resources that can help make the dream of obtaining a college degree a reality.
  • Information Technology; Working with Tables, Queries, Reports and Switchboards Menus – Monday, October 26th Come and hear from professionals in the information technology (IT) field about working with tables, queries, reports and switchboard menus.
  • Criminal Justice; Safety Tips for the Holidays – Tuesday, October 27th Obtain insight from criminal justice experts on safety precautions to take during the holidays.
  • Fashion Design and Marketing; How to Sew Your Own Garment in Minutes – Wednesday, October 28th Learn “tips and tricks” from fashion students and instructors on how you can be your own fashion designer.
  • Interior Design; Modern, Traditional and Future Trends in Home Design – Thursday, October 29th
  • Learn everything there is to know about home design in traditional, modern and future trends so you can decorate your house the way you always wanted to.

All workshops will run from 6‐8:30 p.m. at AIU South Florida’s Weston campus at 2250 North Commerce Parkway.
