Active Military and Veterans Receive Complimentary Training on Business Plan Development through Upcoming Online Education Webinar and Seminar Series

CHICAGO (August 17, 2009) – As U.S. troops return home, they face various challenges in the transition from military to civilian life. Earlier this year, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that military personnel who served since September 11, 2001 have a jobless rate of 11.2 percent.

For active military and veterans who may want to start their own business but don’t know how, American InterContinental University (AIU) is hosting a complimentary online education webinar and seminar series to outline the basics of business plan development.

The online education webinar, taught by Dr. David Kalicharan, an AIU professor with more than 25 years business experience, will take place on Thursday, August 20, 2009, at 1 p.m. EDT. In September, seminars will take place at each AIU U.S. campus : AIU Atlanta, AIU Houston and AIU South Florida.

“Economists throughout the years have shown the advantages of starting a business during a recession,” said Dr. Kalicharan. “Veterans bring a strong sense of discipline and commitment to success that set them up to excel in building a small business.”

In the online education webinar, Dr. Kalicharan, who has worked with multinational corporations as well as small businesses, will focus on three key components:

  • Leveraging core skills— transferring expertise from military to business
  • Planning—making smart business decisions
  • Marketing—effectively promoting a business
