Study Abroad Admissions

To be eligible for admission to AIU’s Study Abroad Program, you must be in good academic standing at your home institution and meet its minimum GPA requirements for study abroad. If your home institution imposes additional requirements for studying abroad, AIU will honor those requirements. To apply for an undergraduate internship, you must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

Admissions Application Process

All students wishing to enroll in the AIU Study Abroad Program must first complete the admissions application process. To be considered for admission, students must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Submit a complete application form. (See form in back of this program guide).
  • Include a non-refundable $75 application fee with your application form. This fee reserves your space in the term(s) selected.
  • Participate in an admissions interview arranged by an AIU Admissions Advisor.
  • Submit a Letter of Intent that briefly outlines your interest in and commitment to studying abroad. (See form in back of the Study Abroad program guide).
  • Provide Proof of English Proficiency (e.g.,TOEFL or other English proficiency assessment) if your first language is not English.

Program Acceptance

To be accepted into the AIU Study Abroad Program, additional items may be required. Those items include:

  • Official Transcript (always required)
An official transcript is required from your home institution. This can be sent separately from your application; however, final acceptance to the AIU Study Abroad Program is contingent upon receipt and review of your official transcript.
  • Course and Program Approvals (always required)
All courses taken at AIU must be pre-approved by your academic advisor and dean/department head. Study abroad approval from your International Office is also required to ensure that all home institution procedures have been followed.

A Course Pre-Approval Form (provided separately) must be completed, indicating up to ten (10) course selections in order of preference to allow for scheduling flexibility. You should complete the form with the assistance of your Academic Advisor to ensure that you meet stated course prerequisites and to verify transfer and acceptance of credit back to your home institution.
  • Reservation Deposit (required for some, but not all programs)
A non-refundable reservation deposit of $250 is required when you submit your application for summer programs in Paris. This deposit reserves your space in the program and is applied to your tuition.
  • Departure Documentation
Upon program acceptance, the AIU Study Abroad Office stays in close contact with you to finalize the details of your study abroad experience. You will be required to submit housing forms, proof of insurance, medical forms, passport copies, your flight itinerary and tuition payment information. We’ll be with you every step of the way to make sure all things are in order prior to your departure.
