Associate of Arts in Visual Communications Degree Program at AIU.

The Associate of Arts degree in Visual Communication is designed to help educate and develop artistic and imaginative students and to provide them with an opportunity to learn industry-focused knowledge and skills.

Emphasis in this program is placed on the development of the thinking process and the ability to solve design problems creatively. Students can learn the principles, practical applications, and methodologies used in completing competent and creative design solutions.

The goal of this Visual Communication program is for students to develop an awareness of the basic elements of visual language, aesthetics sensitivity and the ability to think and act as a designer. They can be challenged to explore methods for evoking intuitive responses through color, shape, texture, rhythm, line and other compositional elements.

Students in this program can learn fundamental knowledge helpful for competent designers in commercial fields. Instruction can also be given on the basic principles of web design, including how to plan and develop well-designed websites, through the use of HTML, that combine effective navigation techniques with the creative use of graphics, sound, and typography.

The AIU AA degree program in Visual Communication provides a working knowledge of the fundamentals of the visual communication industry. In this industry-focused curriculum, students can learn how to:

  • Demonstrate a depth of knowledge and understanding in design strategies and methodologies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply relevant research methodologies to practical and theoretical work.
  • Apply a selective, critically analytic approach to visual problem solving using creativity and originality towards innovative expression in design.
  • Demonstrate appropriate skill in creating presentations and communications within a range of contexts.
