Bachelor of Fine Arts in Media Production (BFA): Specialization in Audio Recording and Sound Design

This Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Media Production degree program features a specialization in Audio Recording and Sound Design and is designed to give students interested in learning the audio end of media production the opportunity to develop specific skills needed to produce audio tracks for productions such as motion pictures, television, music videos and recording. Students also acquire an understanding of the entire process of media production. Coursework is structured to assist students in the development of their goals as they build the knowledge and skills common to audio recording professionals.

The goal of the BFA in Media Production with a specialization in Audio Recording and Sound Design is to provide a foundation in audio and electronic music production, general media production, editing and computer animation and special effects production.

In this curriculum, students can advance their creative and technical abilities in areas such as building professional soundtracks, including effects editing, automatic dialog replacement (ADR), dialog editing, audio sweetening and foleying, composing and mixing music for films and videos and enhancing moving images with innovative sound design.

The AIU BFA in Media Production with a specialization in Audio Recording and Sound Design gives students the opportunity to acquire an understanding of the entire process of media production, with an emphasis on developing specific skills needed to produce audio tracks for productions such as motion pictures, television, music videos and recording. In this industry-focused curriculum, students can learn how to:

  • Demonstrate a thorough technical understanding of the three phases of the motion picture production process (preproduction, production and postproduction) and the contributions of audio specialists at each.
  • Generate and properly utilize industry-standard paperwork to track and control audio production in each of the three phases of a motion picture production.
  • Demonstrate technical competency with various industry-standard software, and recording techniques and technologies.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of on-set protocol/behavior and professionalism appropriate to field, studio and postproduction applications.
  • Contribute appropriately to the audio/soundtrack of various motion picture projects.
  • Develop audio projects from concept to finished product, on time and on budget, to a client's specifications.
  • Organize and manage self-directed audio production projects
