This Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) degree program features a specialization in Digital Investigations. The Digital Investigations specialization is designed for students wishing to pursue an interest in the detection and prevention of computer crime. Courses in our digital investigations specialization are structured to assist students in the development of their goals as they can learn knowledge and skills common to digital investigations professionals.

The goal of the BIT program with a specialization in Digital Investigations is to provide students with the opportunity to examine techniques for collection, preservation, analysis and reporting of digital network evidence.

In this industry-focused curriculum, students can learn about the concepts and systems involved in digital investigations and with an overview of cybercrime. They will also have opportunities to learn about digital investigation techniques for applications running for network operating systems.

The Digital Investigations specialization is designed to allow students to gain a fundamental understanding in digital and network investigations. In this curriculum, students can learn how to:

  • Identify, collect, and preserve a variety of digital and network devices and evidence.
  • Identify, analyze, and solve both technical and investigative problems.
  • Effectively communicate technical findings in both oral and written form using given established policies and procedures.
  • Collect electronic evidence without altering or damaging the original data.
  • Discuss current laws pertaining to digital crime.
  • Adopt and follow relevant industry codes of conduct and professional behaviors.
  • and many more industry-related skills.
