The goal of the BIT program with a specialization in Information Assurance and Security is to help students learn about the types of information technology security used in business today as well as the practices that should be in place in any organization to ensure security. The program also addresses issues of physical and operations security.

In this curriculum, students can study essential practices involved in developing a security policy, including important topics including security standards, security baseline analysis, guidelines for security policy development, the value of security templates and policy implementation, revision, maintenance and enforcement, threat detection and reaction and technical and managerial responses.

The Information Assurance and Security specialization is designed for students seeking to gain experience in the major areas of system and network assurance and security, which may include wireless security, coping with insider threats, and hardening operating systems. In this industry-focused curriculum, students can learn how to:

  • Apply the best practices of security principles to network and computer systems.
  • Implement computer and network defense -in-depth.
  • Use and deploy existing and emerging information assurance technology.
  • Identify and resolve information assurance problems using qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Develop a response plan based on an organizational security environment.
