Dr. Kola Sonaike is the department Chair of business and professor of management, leadership & ethics at American InterContinental University (AIU) Houston. He has a passion for imparting knowledge and teaches Business Management and Leadership, Strategic Management, Leadership and Ethics for Managers, and International Business Operations Management . He joined the University in January 2007.

His background was in petroleum engineering and he joined ExxonMobil in 1977 after working for Atlantic Richfield and International Drilling Company for one year. He worked for ExxonMobil for 29 years. While at ExxonMobil, Dr. Sonaike acquired another bachelor degree in Business Administration, two master’s degrees in Industrial & Labor Relations and Business Administration respectively, and a Ph.D in Management. He has attended more than 80 different on-the job training programs in different parts of the world.

Dr. Sonaike held eight senior managerial positions at ExxonMobil within engineering; safety, health & environment (SHE); production operations; and capital projects. He was privileged to work in different continents of the world and has participated in programs in most major cities around the globe. Dr. Sonaike was the first African to be certified, in 1986, by the American Board of Certified Safety Professionals.

Dr. Sonaike is married and has lived in Houston with his wife and four children for over 18 years.
