At American InterContinental University, we believe that students deserve encouragement and guidance from their first day in class to their first day of their new future and beyond. And the AIU Mentoring Program can give students the leadership and direction they need to become leaders in their chosen professions.
For students considering enrolling at AIU, the mentoring program can offer you more than a guide through the ins and outs of college life. The right mentor can help you set and meet academic goals and learn to adapt to an online learning environment. Being a member of the AIU Mentoring Program can also give you a glimpse into how becoming a mentor after you graduate can help future students.
Getting started
AIU isn’t your average university, so ours isn’t the average mentor program: you and your mentor will keep in touch via e-mail, and if you both like, phone and video conferencing or if you’re in the same area, meeting face-to-face. As part of the program, you’ll also receive weekly e-mails and you’ll be asked to file periodic reports on how your mentor relationship is progressing. A good start is important in any relationship, but for you and your mentor, helping you get started with AIU can make a major positive impact on your academic success.
Getting adjusted
By pairing you with an AIU alum, you’ll have the advantage of being connected to a graduate who’s there to answer your questions about your online degree program, lead you through your experience with our Virtual Campus, help you connect your academic experiences with your professional aspirations, and keep you focused when you need a little extra motivation. AIU’s online communities offer students a variety of choices to keep in touch with classmates and instructors—through Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube, you can create your own campus support network. And your mentor can guide you toward the best online communities for you and be available for you when you just need a willing ear to listen.
Getting out into the world
Your relationship with your mentor doesn’t end when you finish your degree program. Once you’ve found your rhythm in your classes and in other campus life, your mentor can also give you tips on how to network with students and potential employers when you’re ready to graduate. Coupled with AIU’s Career Services department, you’ll have the tools you need to pursue opportunities.
Mentoring programs are designed to give you an opportunity to participate in a relationship that can make a real difference in the lives of you and your mentor. Once you graduate from AIU, you’ll have the chance to give back to your college community by becoming a mentor. And, if you have a valuable and supportive mentoring experience, then the best way to show gratitude is to become a mentor yourself. At AIU, we believe in our students—and we strive to help them believe in themselves.
