AIU Atlanta Library Director to Co-Present at International Conference

AIU staff and faculty members continue to represent the University as leaders in their fields of study.
Heather Dray, Director of Library and Information Resources at AIU Atlanta, will co-present with Julie LaDell-Thomas, Off-Campus Library Services at Central Michigan University, at the Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy, which takes place September 21-22, 2012. Their presentation and panel discussion revolves around the theme of information literacy instruction in non-traditional academic environments.
Title: You Can Take it With You: Information Literacy from Classroom to Workplace
Abstract: Students working towards college degrees in non-traditional academic environments often begin their college careers with a limited or outdated understanding of information resources, access and retrieval. Preparing these students for the workplace requires librarians to assess and address the developmental needs of each student in order to arm graduates with the information literacy tools that will make them successful in the workplace. Working with students in non-traditional academic environments, Julie LaDell-Thomas and Heather Dray are reaching students by partnering with faculty to bring critical thinking regarding information access, retrieval and evaluation into the classroom.
Bio: Prior to her arrival at AIU Atlanta, Ms. Dray served as Director of Member Relations for LYRASIS, the nation’s largest regional membership organization serving libraries and information professionals. During her time with LYRASIS she directed the education, preservation, sales and support divisions in support of libraries worldwide. She holds a Master’s Degree in Information and Library Studies from Clark Atlanta University, a Certificate in Libraries and Librarianship, Oxford University/UNC Chapel Hill, Oxford, England and a Bachelor of Arts in Classic Cultures from the University of Georgia. Ms. Dray has 20 years of experience in academic, public and private libraries. She was awarded Best New Georgia Librarian, Council of Media Organizations (COMO), 1998.
