AIU Atlanta receives certificate of appreciation for book donation

AIU Atlanta donated hundreds of books and about $200 recently to benefit children in a Sierra Leone community devastated by poverty and war.

The university made the donation through the Dr. Lauretta Will (DLW) Educational Foundation, which gathers and distributes educational materials, technological resources and professional expertise to poverty-stricken, inner-city and war-devastated communities.

A recent consolidation of AIU Atlanta’s library and transition to the CECybrary allowed the institution to donate excess books to the DLW Educational Foundation. Along with donating books from the school, AIU Atlanta held a community book drive to collect additional children’s books to be sent to the Home of Disadvantaged Children in Mbonambi Jong, Sierra Leone.

Dr. Lauretta Will, an adjunct professor at AIU Atlanta, is the founder of the charitable organization, which AIU Atlanta proudly supports. AIU Atlanta President Peter Correa serves on the foundation’s Advisory Board. Additional members of the AIU Learning Community participate on Board of Directors and Advisory Board.

“The AIU Atlanta learning community is honored to support the efforts of one of our own employees in her home country where she is making a difference and impacting the education of children,” said Correa.

As part of Correa’s commitment to the foundation, he served as keynote speaker at the 2010 DWL Educational Foundation awards banquet on Nov. 13. On behalf of AIU Atlanta, Correa accepted a certificate of appreciation from the DLW Educational Foundation.
