Fashion’s Night Out was celebrated in Atlanta on September 8th, 2011. It was a huge success that reflected the efforts of a dynamic partnership between AIU Atlanta and Perimeter Mall. This represented Atlanta’s rendition of a huge, multi-national event that takes place in cities around the globe. The students, staff, and faculty of AIU Atlanta spearheaded and produced an event that included product demonstrations and two amazing fashion shows.
The first fashion show of the evening focused on the works of AIU Atlanta students and alumni. It showcased 75 garments produced by AIU’s gifted designers. Sondra Corso, Fashion Program Chair, and other members of the AIU Atlanta Fashion Faculty provided leadership for the entire event. However, AIU Atlanta students and alumni were the stars of the show. As expressed by Elena Pitts of the AIU Atlanta Fashion faculty, “It was amazing to watch how the groups emerged in the last eight weeks from students to young professionals handling every aspect of the production. They took care of small and big details to include: critiquing and selecting garments, printing programs, training volunteers and actually running the show.”
The second show featured designs from Perimeter Mall stores including: White House, Black Market, Betsey Johnson, Hana Anderson and Dillard’s. These stores provided another 75 garments for the AIU Fashion Show Team to tackle. AIU Atlanta Alumni Christian Harris coordinated the professional models and it can be said without reservation that the ten women, two men and five children who served as models rocked the runway.
