HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (April 20, 2010) – American InterContinental University, a military-friendly university providing quality education to career-focused students, announced Richard Kennedy as the director of military relations.
In his new position, Kennedy will lead the AIU military relations department to better serve its military population and create stronger partnerships with all branches of the armed forces. Kennedy understands the unique needs of military students and veterans as a veteran himself. He served in the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander overseeing an Educational Service Office, where he coordinated both afloat and ashore college education programs in accordance with the Navy’s College Program for Afloat College Education.
"My experience with the military and in education helps me understand the unique needs of AIU's military-related students, which is a significant portion of the school's population," said Kennedy. "These students need anywhere and anytime access, as well as flexibility. I'm proud to work with a school that provides these benefits, as well as the support services needed for success."
Along with his military experience, Kennedy comes to AIU with a wealth of knowledge in a number of fields including education, marketing and business. He gained classroom experience teaching at Columbia College Chicago in the marketing communications department. He also has worked at Abbott Laboratories and CMC Inc., serving in marketing and training functions.
“Richard’s naval career and his expertise in education and business make him an outstanding candidate for this position,” said Jennifer Ziegenmier, vice president of university student management at AIU. “With his guidance and knowledge, AIU can become the premiere learning institution for members of the military and their spouses.”
Kennedy earned his bachelor’s degree at Marquette University and holds an M.B.A. with a concentration in marketing from Loyola University in Chicago.
