On 31 May 2011, fashion and business press, professionals from the fashion industry, students and guests gathered at The Boiler House in London's edgy Brick Lane to experience catwalk shows, a live fashion shoot and an exhibition showing graduate fashion marketing ideas. The events were attended by about 500 guests and there was an excited buzz as guests queued and passers-by tried to gain entry to the invite-only shows. 11 students' final collections were shown on the catwalk and 20 students exhibited their fashion marketing projects. The event was part of Free Range, a series of fashion events in central London.
Coverage in the media during the days following the show attest to the impact it had on those in attendance. Frances Booth of the Guardian, one of the most-read newspapers in the UK, writes, "...as the models took to the catwalk, students such as Ardita Dermaku, Stefanie Akinmade and Hilary Hanks proved the future of fashion is in safe hands. The most striking element of the work, however, was the level to which the fashion marketing students had used advanced social media and web skills in their portfolios."
