Western Michigan University – Fashion Marketing/Retail
It's been two years since I've studied abroad and I'm still amazed by how much those three months in London have affected not only my college experience but also my life.
As a student at a midwestern university my opportunities in terms of classes and culture were limited. I received diversity in both areas at AIU in abundance! The campus was perfectly located in central London and was within walking distance to all major landmarks (and most conveniently Starbucks!) My courses were unbelievably beneficial and educational. All of my instructors were experts and were working in the fields they were teaching. The hands-on method of AIU taught me more in three months than quite possibly my entire four years in lecture halls at my home university.
Living in my flat was another highlight of my stay. Our apartment was gorgeous and situated in a safe and exciting area. I got to live with five other girls who I had never met, but now am forever bonded with. My flat mates and I made the most of our time and accessibility to cheap travel and went all around Europe. I can easily say my time outside the classroom was just as educational as my coursework.
The best part of my study abroad experience isn't how great it looks on my resume (which it does) or that I have a competitive edge over most college kids (which I do!) instead, it was the people I met and the experiences I had. The Fall 2005 AIU study abroad group has since had two reunions where we've traveled across the country to see each other again. Each time we meet up we're reminded of the irreplaceable times we've shared and how lucky we are. We had three months of adventure and education that can't be beat and we always repeat two things, "I wish I could go back" and "I wish everyone could do this!" Studying abroad was the best thing I've ever done for myself in so many ways. I truly do wish everyone could experience it!
