  • Successful completion of the BFA in Media Production with a specialization in Audio Recording and Sound Design can provide students with an applicable foundation of industry-related knowledge and skills, including how to:


    • Demonstrate a thorough technical understanding of the three phases of the motion picture production process (preproduction, production and postproduction) and the contributions of audio specialists at each.
    • Generate and properly utilize industry-standard paperwork to track and control audio production in each of the three phases of a motion picture production.
    • Demonstrate technical competency with various industry-standard software, and recording techniques and technologies.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of on-set protocol/behavior and professionalism appropriate to field, studio and postproduction applications.
    • Contribute appropriately to the audio/soundtrack of various motion picture projects.
    • Develop audio projects from concept to finished product, on time and on budget, to a client’s specifications.

    Organize and manage self-directed audio production projects.

    • In this specialized curriculum, students can have an opportunity to build a foundation of industry-related knowledge and skills in audio and electronic music production, general media production, editing and computer animation and special effects production. The experiences and firsthand perspectives they may share in class can help prepare you for real-life challenges after you graduate. For example:

      • In Music Production II, students can learn how to record, sequence and edit their own music using a computer with appropriate software and MIDI keyboard.
      • In Sound Design I, students can focus on the creative role of the sound designer, learning to create and mix sonic landscapes that enhance the moving image.
      • In Musicianship for Engineers, students can explore a variety of music subjects within the context of audio recording and production.

    • The Audio Recording and Sound Design specialization program provides its graduates with industry-related knowledge and skills in music production, sound design and audio engineering.

      Students will have the opportunity to advance their creative and technical abilities in areas such as building professional soundtracks, including effects editing, automatic dialog replacement (ADR), dialog editing, composing and mixing music for films and videos and enhancing moving images with innovative sound design.
