AIU London graduating interior design student Erica Deam has been named a finalist for the Janine Stone Young Interior Designer Award (YIDA) for 2012. The award, now in its second year, is intended to recognize emerging graduate design talent.
Erica's project included identifying a site in London and a fictional client, and then developing a concept that addresses the client's needs within the available space. She chose The Natural Kitchen, located on Marylebone High Street in London.
According to Erica's project synopsis, her design "employs elements of topography to create public and private areas within the home while maintaining the feel of wide-open spaces." The clients in her project are a couple in their early 30's who are relocating to London from Colorado, so open spaces and a natural, rustic design were important for the project.
The Janine Stone Young Interior Designer Award ceremony will be held Thursday, May 3rd, at the Hospital Club, Covent Garden, in London, with judging taking place on May 2nd. The judging panel includes esteemed members of the London design community, and the award ceremony is expected to draw many industry professionals and members of the design media. Universities participating in the final stage of the competition include: University of Hertfordshire, Southampton Solent, Birmingham City University, American Intercontinental University, Brunel University, University of Westminster, London Metropolitan, Edinburgh Napier University and Glasgow School of Art.
AIU is proud of Erica and her progress this far into the competition, and we look forward to May when we all will find out if her worthy entry is chosen for the award. Congratulations, Erica!
