Military Admissions
AIU uses the ACE Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services as the basis for evaluating military training and experience. As a DANTES-affiliated institution, AIU has established programs geared to the needs of active service members and veterans.
Military students wishing to enroll at AIU must first complete the application process. To be considered for admission, first-time students and transfer applicants must fulfill the following requirements:
- Submit a complete application for admission.
- Submit attestation of high school graduation or its equivalent.
- Participate in an admission interview arranged by an AIU Admission Advisor.
- Prospective students whose native language is not English are required to provide proof of English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL or other English proficiency assessment) prior to admission or arrival.
Please refer to the AIU catalog for more information on submission requirements for Experiential Learning, Professional Training/Certification Credit, CLEP Examinations, DSST Examinations and Advanced Placement Examinations.
At AIU Online, you can complete the application process entirely online.
Should you be accepted for admission to American InterContinental University, it could be to your advantage to speak with an AIU Financial Aid Advisor. You should also meet with your Education Services Officer immediately and follow the three steps outlined below to ensure that the process of applying for financial aid goes smoothly.
Step 1- Schedule an appointment to speak with your Education Officer.
Be prepared to speak to your Education Services Officer about American InterContinental University, including our accreditation and the reasons you would like to attend our online campus.
At the time of the meeting, your Education Services Officer can give you the essential paperwork regarding your Tuition Assistance (TA) and advise you on your eligibility for the Top-Up benefits, the GI Bill and any other military benefits for which you may qualify. This paperwork will need to be completed in a quick and timely manner, and then faxed to your AIU Financial Aid Advisor.

To be eligible for the Top-up benefit, you must be approved for Tuition Assistance by a military department and be eligible for GI Bill Active Duty benefits. You must be a GI Bill Active Duty participant and must have served at least two full years on active duty.
Step 2 - Fill out a FAFSA application.
FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and is an online service that helps determine your eligibility for various forms of financial aid. In order to complete the FAFSA, you must do the following:
- Log on to the FAFSA website, www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- Register for a PIN and Fill out the FAFSA. (You can do both on the same day.) If you are registering for the PIN for the first time, it will take a couple of days to receive electronically, but it does not hinder you from completing the FAFSA.
- When you receive the PIN, just log on and open your saved FAFSA and sign with your PIN.
The entire process takes about 30 minutes to complete and needs to be started as soon as possible. When filling out your FAFSA, you will need to input the:
This code will route the completed information to our Financial Aid department.
Step 3 - Contact your Financial Aid Advisor after you have completed your FAFSA.
Your AIU Financial Aid Advisor will work with you to help determine all military benefits for which you are eligible.
The monthly military benefit paid to you is based on the type of training you take, the length of your service, your category and whether the DoD put extra money in your GI Bill Fund (kickers).
