Questions about course scheduling in the AIU Study Abroad Program

When will I find out about my class schedule?

You will be contacted about your class schedule approximately 4-6 weeks prior to the start of your term. At that time, you will have the opportunity to make any necessary changes to your course schedule.

Can I drop a class?

All schedule changes, including dropping/adding classes must be done 3 days before the start of term in order to qualify for a refund. There are no tuition refunds for dropping out of a program or dropping individual courses after arrival in London. Once you arrive on campus, the drop/add period is the first six business days of the quarter or the first three business days of a five-week session.

How many classes do I need to list on my pre-approval form?

It is important that you list as many course options as possible to allow for flexibility when scheduling. Not every course listed in the program guide is offered every term. It is also important to note that you should include selections from the listing of courses scheduled for delivery during your term of attendance.

Multiple sections are not always available, and additional course options can help avoid time conflicts. Also, it is much easier to get additional approvals when advisors are available to you on-campus rather than a few weeks before leaving for London. If you are planning to take 4 classes in London, please list a minimum of 8-10 approved course options.

I am not taking classes for credit; do I need to complete a pre-approval form?

Yes, the course pre-approval form is needed for all students. Students who fail to submit a course pre-approval form will not be registered for classes. If you are not taking classes for credit, be sure to check the corresponding box and sign your name to acknowledge your understanding. Even if not taking courses for transferable credit, students can still receive an official transcript from AIU.

I am graduating soon and must take a certain class in London or I will not graduate on time. What options do I have?

If you must take a class while you are at AIU, be sure to submit your course pre-approval form early so we may be aware of your request in advance.

I want to take a certain class in London, but I don't have the prerequisites that are listed in the program guidebook. Will I be ok?

The faculty at AIU London expects each student to have the foundation skills and knowledge required for each class, and anything less would result in a poor academic environment for the student. Be sure to check the required AIU prerequisites listed for each class you plan to take. Students not meeting required AIU prerequisites or the equivalent from their home institution will not be prepared for the course material and may not register for the class.

My list of class choices has changed; can I make changes to my schedule?

Yes, please update the AIU Study Abroad Program office immediately with any changes to your course requests. You may make any necessary changes to your class schedule prior to your departure in London. If you are registering for a class not listed on your pre-approval form, you must receive approval from your home institution to ensure the credit will transfer.

I want to take a class that is not listed on the course schedule for my term. Is there a chance it will be offered?

Each term (with the exception of Summer A, Summer B, and Summer C), classes are added to the published schedule based on student demand. If you would like to take a class not currently on the schedule, you must request it on the course pre-approval form to receive consideration.
