AIU will review earned credits from other institutions accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. This includes U.S.-accredited international institutions. If you are submitting an English transcript from an accredited Title-IV eligible institution located abroad, we will evaluate it the same way we evaluate transcripts submitted from accredited schools within the U.S. Applicability of credit depends on an academic review of the incoming credit against a student's program of study. See AIU's PLA Philosophy for more details.
The evaluation of your transcript will take into consideration the following factors to ensure you are placed at the appropriate educational level.
- Registration with the country's governing academic body
- Course or degree subject matter
- Grading scale or criteria
- Unit of credit
- Course or degree descriptions
- Third-party analysis of country's degree in comparison to similar U.S. degree
AIU reserves the right to individually evaluate international credentials or to refer them to a credential evaluation service.
Several transcript evaluation services are available to students. AIU students submitting transcripts from foreign
institutions must have an official evaluation from a NARIC, NACES or AICE approved evaluation service. AIU Online will consider evaluations and/or recommendations directly from AACRAO (American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers).
Please note that prospective students must request translation of non-English documents and are responsible for all translation costs incurred.
Not all credits are eligible to transfer. To get more detail and a full list of transfer credit requirements, download the AIU Transfer-In Credits Guide.
