You know that an MBA could help you move your career forward. But you don't have the luxury of returning to school full time. If you're like most people, you literally can't afford to leave your full-time job, even if you think an MBA could pay off in the long run.

"The long run," unfortunately, doesn't pay mortgage and grocery bills.

But that doesn't mean you have to give up on your dreams of pursuing an MBA. If you need the flexibility to pursue your degree on your time, consider an online MBA program that will allow you to complete your studies while continuing to work full time. With some programs, you can even earn an online MBA in 11 months.

The first step is finding an accredited online university that provides:

In fact, more and more students working toward a degree are turning to online courses and programs. A 2013 study by the Babson Survey Research Group showed that 7.1 million American higher-education students — or 33 percent of total higher education students — were taking at least one course online. That number is likely to continue to grow. In fact, 90 percent of academic leaders believe that it is likely or very likely that a majority of all higher-education students will be taking at least one online course in five years' time, according to the Babson study.

To employers, online degrees can indicate that an employee is a self-starter who is comfortable with technology. An online MBA also shows you are good at managing your time, can work independently and that you can follow through with your commitments.

But what about earning an online MBA in 11 months? Is it really possible to earn a degree that can help you get where you want to be in less than a year while working full time? Yes. Quality schools provide in-depth courses taught by industry specialists that reflect employer needs and current business trends in the workplace. Accelerated coursework, hard work and commitment can pay off with an MBA in less than a year. It won't be easy, of course, but when you're able to pursue that promotion or new job opportunity armed with your advanced degree, it will all be worthwhile.
