Master of Business Administration (MBA): Specialization in Project Management

This Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree program with a specialization in Project Management is designed to emphasize the project phases and processes presented by such organizations as the Project Management Institute (PMI®) in their Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®). Coursework is structured to assist students in the development of their goals as they acquire a comprehensive core of business knowledge in addition to specialized knowledge and skills common to project management professionals.

Project managers play a central role in an organization's capacity to devise, schedule, implement, manage and deliver key initiatives. They must be able to optimize physical and human resources to accomplish organizational objectives. Individuals with professional project management skills must use their ability to consistently produce "on time, on budget" projects while increasing quality and the competitive edge.

The goal of the MBA with a specialization in Project Management is to emphasize the project phases and processes presented by such organizations as the Project Management Institute (PMI®) in their Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®).

In this business-focused curriculum, students can learn the basic project management framework as well as the preparation of a basic project plan. Coursework will focus on project management processes including scope, scheduling, cost control and communication.

The AIU MBA with a specialization in Project Management offers students a hands-on approach to using project management knowledge areas to facilitate scheduling, estimating, tracking and controlling the schedule and costs of the project. In this program, students can learn how to:

  • Adapt and innovate to solve problems.
  • Analyze various leader, follower, cultural and situational characteristics that contribute to leadership and adapt to the needs of situations, employees and co-workers.
  • Develop plans to improve business operations.
  • Recognize and manage potential ethical and legal conflicts.
  • Identify project stakeholders to assess their needs and issues at the beginning of the project.
  • Analyze various organizational systems and determine how to integrate project management processes into various existing corporate structures.
  • Create a project plan (based upon the core planning processes) focused on customer needs and which effectively balances project and organizational objectives with stakeholder satisfaction and which addresses the nine project management process areas.
