AIU participates in a variety of grant programs for the benefit of students. Students must meet the eligibility requirements of these programs in order to participate. AIU administers its grant programs in accordance with prevailing federal and state laws and its own institutional policies. Students are responsible for providing all requested documentation in a timely manner; failure to do so could jeopardize the student’s eligibility. In order to remain eligible for each grant program, a student must maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined in the University Catalog.

Students who need additional information and guidance should contact the Financial Aid Office.

AIU Advantage Grant

The purpose of the AIU Advantage Grant is to recognize students who face extreme personal and/or financial hardships in pursuit of a degree from AIU. Current students must be in good academic standing at AIU. Newly enrolled students must have been in good academic standing at their last institution.

The AIU Advantage Grant is typically awarded anywhere from $500 to $1,000 per academic program and will be applied against outstanding current or future charges at the University’s discretion.

The conditions are as follows:

  • The grant is used exclusively towards prior or current program charges.
  • To be eligible, students must be in attendance during the applicable term.
  • Candidates must apply and be accepted for admission to be eligible to receive the grant.
  • Candidates must submit a minimum 500-word essay on how they intend to use the skills learned at AIU to benefit others and society and complete the AIU Advantage Grant application.
  • All grants are applied as a credit to the student’s account, and no cash payments will be awarded to the student.

The grant is non-transferable and non-substitutable. Interested candidates should contact the AIU Admissions or Financial Aid Department for additional application information.

AIU Corporate Educational Alliances Grant

AIU has established a grant* in the name of its Corporate Educational Alliances in order to assist eligible students and their immediate family members** with the opportunity to attend a degree program of study at AIU. To be eligible for the Educational Alliances Grant, a candidate must be accepted for admission to the University, complete the Educational Alliances Attestation form and must also allow for verification of eligibility. Verification of eligibility may require the student to submit documentation of proof of employment with the corporation.

The conditions are as follows:

  • The Educational Alliances Grant is used exclusively towards current program charges.
  • The grant is awarded proportionately over each applicable academic year and the grant percentage will be applied to the academic year tuition costs.
  • Qualifying students must be an employee of the corporate educational alliance member or an employee‘s immediate family member**.
  • Students must be employed with the educational alliance member within 30 days of enrollment.
  • Candidates must apply and be accepted for admission to the University to be eligible to receive the grant.
  • All grants are applied as a credit to the student‘s account and no cash payments will be awarded to the student.
  • Students selected for employment verification must provide documentation before the grant is applied. Documentation must show the effective date of employment and must be submitted after employment prior to the first day of class.
  • All of the conditions must be fulfilled before the grant can be disbursed.

The grant is non-transferable and non-substitutable and cannot be combined with the following institutional grants: AIU Military Spouse Grant, AIU Veterans Grant, AIU Corporate Educational Alliances Grant or AIU Lifelong Learning Grant. The grant with the greatest benefit to the student will be applied. Interested candidates should contact the AIU Financial Aid Office for additional application information.

AIU Academic Educational Alliances Grant

AIU has established a grant* in the name of its Academic Educational Alliances in order to assist eligible students with the opportunity to attend a degree program of study at AIU. To be eligible for the Educational Alliances Grant, a candidate must be accepted for admission to the University and complete the Educational Alliances Attestation form and must also allow for verification of eligibility. For Academic Educational Alliances, verification of eligibility may require the student to submit documentation of proof of prior attendance from the institution of higher learning with which AIU has an articulation agreement.

The conditions are as follows:

  • The Educational Alliances Grant is used exclusively towards current program charges.
  • The grant is awarded proportionately over each applicable academic year and the grant will be applied to the academic year tuition costs.
  • Qualifying students are students who have previously attended an institution with which AIU has a signed articulation agreement.
  • Candidates must apply and be accepted for admission to the University to be eligible to receive the grant.
  • All grants are applied as a credit to the student‘s account and no cash payments will be awarded to the student.
  • Students selected for verification must provide documentation before the grant is applied. Documentation must show proof of attendance at the prior institution and be submitted prior to the first day of class at AIU.
  • All of the conditions must be fulfilled before the grant can be disbursed.

The grant is non-transferable and non-substitutable and cannot be combined with the following institutional grants: AIU Military Spouse Grant, AIU Veterans Grant, AIU Corporate Educational Alliances Grant or AIU Lifelong Learning Grant. AIU Tribal Educational Alliances Grant

AIU has established a grant in the name of its Tribal Educational Alliances in order to assist eligible students with the opportunity to attend a degree program of study at AIU. To be eligible for the Educational Alliances Grant a candidate must be accepted for admission to the University, complete the Educational Alliances Attestation form and must also allow for verification of eligibility. Verification of eligibility may require the student to submit documentation of proof of tribal affiliation.

The conditions are as follows:

  • The Educational Alliances Grant is used exclusively towards current program charges.
  • The grant is awarded proportionately over each applicable academic year and the grant percentage will be applied to the academic year tuition costs.
  • Qualifying students must be a member of the tribal educational alliance member.
  • Candidates must apply and be accepted for admission to the University to be eligible to receive the grant.
  • All grants are applied as a credit to the student‘s account and no cash payments will be awarded to the student.
  • Students selected for verification must provide documentation before the grant is applied. Documentation must show the effective date of affiliation and must be submitted prior to the first day of class.
  • All of the above conditions must be fulfilled before the grant can be disbursed.

AIU Veterans Grant

AIU has established a grant for our Veterans* of the U.S. military to assist in providing the opportunity to attend a degree program of study at AIU. Veterans may be eligible for a grant up to $1500** to be applied to the program tuition costs. To be eligible for the grant, a candidate must be accepted for admission to the University, allow for the verification of their military discharge via a DD-214 Member-4, or comparable government document and complete the AIU Veterans Grant Attestation form.

The conditions are as follows:

  • The AIU Veterans Grant is used exclusively towards prior or current program charges.
  • The grant is awarded proportionately over each applicable academic year and the grant percentage will be applied to the academic year tuition costs.
  • Qualifying students are Veterans of the U.S. Military that have a discharge that is other than dishonorable.
  • Candidates must apply and be accepted for admission to the University to be eligible to receive the grant.
  • All grants are applied as a credit to the student’s account, and no cash payments will be awarded to the student.

The grant is non-transferable and non-substitutable and cannot be combined with the following institutional grants: AIU Military Spouse Grant, AIU Corporate/Academic Educational Alliances Grant or AIU Lifelong Learning Grant. The grant with the greatest benefit to the student will be applied. Interested candidates should contact the AIU Financial Aid Office for additional application information.

Students selected for membership verification must provide documentation before the grant is disbursed. Documentation must show the effective date of membership prior to the first day of class. Students not able to provide documentation will also be required to pay the application fee

*Veterans with a dishonorable discharge are ineligible for the grant.

*Students utilizing the Chapter 33 Post 9/11 benefits are ineligible to receive this grant.

**The grant amount, combined with all other sources of aid available to the student (federal/state financial aid grants and loan funds, military benefits, private alternative loans, employer tuition reimbursement etc.) may not exceed the total tuition cost for the academic year. In instances where this occurs, the grant will be reduced accordingly.

Note: The AIU Veterans Grant funding is limited. If funding for the AIU Veterans Grant is exhausted, otherwise eligible students may not be awarded the grant.

Yellow Ribbon Grant

In accordance with the Yellow Ribbon Program, a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, the University has established a Yellow Ribbon Grant. Eligibility and amounts are determined on an annual basis (on or after August 1st) and are subject to change. To be eligible for the grant, a candidate must be accepted for admission to the University, be eligible for Chapter 33 Post-9/11 veterans benefits at the 100% rate, as determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs, complete the appropriate University Attestation form, and allow for the verification of their Chapter 33 Post-9/11 eligibility via a DD-214 Member-4, or Certificate of Eligibility, or comparable government document.

The conditions are as follows:

  • Candidates must be an eligible veteran or a Dependent of an eligible Veteran that meets the Post-9/11 GI Bill Transferability requirements (benefits.va.gov/gibill).
  • Candidates must apply and be accepted for admission to the University to be eligible.
  • The Yellow Ribbon Grant is applied as a credit to the student’s account, and no cash payments will be awarded to the student.
  • The Yellow Ribbon Grant is used exclusively towards prior or current program charges.
  • The Yellow Ribbon Grant is awarded for each period in the program that the student is determined eligible, and where the grant is needed.
  • The Yellow Ribbon Grant is non-transferable and non- substitutable and cannot be combined with any other institutional grant

AIU Lifelong Learning Grant

The purpose of the AIU Lifelong Learning Grant is to recognize AIU undergraduate alumni who intend to pursue a graduate degree at AIU. Alumni of these programs, enrolling into a graduate program, will be eligible for a grant up to $1,000*. The grant award will be applied against outstanding current or future charges at the University’s discretion.

The conditions are as follows:

  • The Lifelong Learning Grant is used exclusively towards prior or current program charges.
  • The grant is awarded proportionately over each applicable academic year and the grant percentage will be applied to the academic year tuition costs
  • Candidates must apply and be accepted for admission into a Master’s degree program to be eligible to receive the grant.
  • All grants are applied as a credit to the student’s account, and no cash payments will be awarded to the student.

*The grant amount, combined with all other sources of aid available to the student (federal/state financial aid grants and loan funds, military benefits, private alternative loans, employer tuition reimbursement etc.) may not exceed the total tuition cost for the academic year. In instances where this occurs, the grant will be reduced accordingly.

AIU Houston MSIT Lifelong Learning Grant

The purpose of the AIU Lifelong Learning Grant is to recognize AIU undergraduate alumni who intend to continue their education and pursue a Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) degree at the AIU – Houston campus. Alumni, enrolling into the MSIT program, may be eligible for an institutional grant up to $6,000*.

In addition to the AIU General Grant and Scholarship Conditions, students must also meet the following criteria:

  • Students must have earned a Bachelor’s degree at AIU.
  • Candidates must apply and be accepted for admission into a Master of Science in Information Technology degree program at the Houston campus.

With the exception of the Advantage Grant, the Lifelong Learning Grant cannot be combined with any other institutional grant. The grant with the greatest benefit to the student will be applied. Interested candidates should contact the Financial Aid Department for additional information and eligibility consideration.

AIU Military Spouse Grant

AIU has established a grant up to 10%* for all spouses of active duty and drilling members of the U.S. military to assist in providing the opportunity to attend a degree program of study at AIU. To be eligible for the AIU Military Spouse Grant, a candidate must be accepted for admission to the University, allow for the verification of their spouse’s military status and complete the AIU Military Spouse Grant Attestation form.

The conditions are as follows:

  • The AIU Military Spouse Grant is used exclusively towards prior or current program charges.
  • The grant is awarded proportionately over each applicable academic year and the grant percentage will be applied to the academic year tuition costs.
  • Qualifying students are spouses of active duty and drilling members of the U.S. military.
  • Candidates must apply and be accepted for admission to the University to be eligible to receive the grant.
  • All grants are applied as a credit to the student’s account, and no cash payments will be awarded to the student.

AIU Resilience Grant

The AIU Resilience Grant is designed to assist students who are enrolled in a Title IV eligible program at AIU, but due to extenuating circumstances are unable to pursue their education without financial assistance. This includes those who are not eligible for external programs such as federal or state financial aid, military benefits, or employer tuition reimbursement.

The grant is need-based and intended to assist students in covering remaining tuition and fees charges after it has been determined that the student is not eligible for external financial assistance and the student has established a minimum monthly payment of $250 with the University. Eligible students receive an institutional grant toward the published tuition and fees. The grant, when combined with the student payments, may be awarded up to direct institutional charges, including but not limited to, tuition, fees, and course materials. The grant will only apply to eligible current or future charges at the University's discretion. The grant is applied as a credit to the student’s account. The grant is not transferable and may not be redeemed for cash or credit.

Students must adhere to the AIU General Grant and Scholarship Conditions. The grant may not be combined with any other scholarship or grant.

Eligibility

  • Students must have exhausted all external financial assistance options.
  • Consideration for the AIU Resilience Grant will be reviewed and determined by the Financial Aid Department.
  • Student must establish a minimum monthly payment of $250 with the University.
  • The student must be current on their University payment plan to remain eligible.

If a student becomes eligible for external financial assistance or their previous financial assistance eligibility is reinstated, the student will no longer be eligible for the grant.

The AIU Resilience Grant is need-based and limited to a maximum of 75 recipients per academic session across all locations. The grant, which is subject to availability of funds, will be disbursed at the completion of each academic term after determination that the grant eligibility criteria have been met. Students who do not meet the eligibility criteria are responsible for any remaining account balance including that attributed to the loss of the grant.

International students (those attending on a F-1 visa) are not eligible for this grant.

AIU Success Grant

AIU has established the AIU Success Grant to recognize new undergraduate students with 36 transfer credits or less who have achieved academic success within their program of study through their first academic year at AIU. The amount is a one-time award of up to $2000.*

The conditions are as follows:

  • Students must be enrolled as a full-time student for each term within their first academic year (as defined as three full academic terms or six 5-week sessions) taking a minimum of 12 credit hours per quarter and earn a 3.5 cumulative GPA through the first academic year.
  • Students must have 36 transfer credits or less to be eligible to receive the grant
  • The grant is awarded proportionately over each term in the second academic year of the program.
  • No disbursements will be applied to the student’s account until grades have posted for all coursework within the first academic year and a cumulative GPA has been determined.
  • This is a one-time grant and will be applied as a credit to the student’s account and no cash payments will be awarded to the student.
  • PEC Employees and family members utilizing the National Educational Assistance Program are not eligible to receive this grant.

The grant is non-transferable and non-substitutable and cannot be combined with any other institutional grant or scholarship. The grant/scholarship with the greatest financial benefit to the student will be applied. Interested candidates should contact the AIU Financial Aid Department for additional information.

AIU Student Determination Grant

AIU offers the Student Determination Grant to undergraduate students who are enrolled in a Title IV eligible program, have exhausted all federal/state aid available, established a minimum monthly payment with the institution and have unmet financial need for the applicable academic year.

The grant may be awarded up to $3,810 per academic year. The grant, combined with all other sources of aid available to the student (federal/state financial aid grants and loan funds, military benefits*, private alternative loans, employer tuition reimbursement, etc.) may not exceed the total tuition, fees and course materials costs for the academic year. The grant will be disbursed evenly among eligible terms with no single term exceeding $1,270 in eligibility. The grant is need-based and intended to assist students in covering remaining tuition charges after all available financial assistance has been utilized and a minimum monthly payment has been established with the University. The grant is not transferrable and may not be redeemed for cash or credit. Students must adhere to the AIU General Grant and Scholarship Conditions. The grant may be combined with any other scholarship or grant.

The grant is subject to the program eligibility limits listed below.

Eligibility

  • Must first exhaust all other financial assistance options.
  • Maintain full-time enrollment for each academic term (at least 12 credit hours).
  • Consideration for the AIU Student Determination Grant will be reviewed and determined by the Financial Aid Department.
  • Student must establish a minimum monthly payment with the University.

The Student Determination Grant, which is subject to availability, will be disbursed at the completion of each academic term after determination that the grant eligibility criteria have been met. Students who do not meet the eligibility criteria are responsible for any remaining account balance including that attributed to the loss of the grant.

*Students utilizing the Chapter 33 Post 9/11 benefits and international students (those attending on an F-1 visa) are not eligible to receive this grant.

Alumni Referral Grant

Alumni often look back at their American InterContinental University (AIU) experiences as some of the most fulfilling and memorable of their lives. AIU has established the Alumni Referral Grant as a way to recognize AIU Alumni and benefit their newly referred students. Now, someone you know can have the opportunity for the same experience and receive a $1,000 grant once all below conditions have been met.

Alumni referring new students who successfully follow and complete all following conditions below will:

  • Have a grant in their name awarded to that new student (example John Smith Alumni Grant),
  • Receive a certificate of honor confirming that their grant has been given to a new AIU student.

All recognition pieces will be given to the referring Alumni after the student has successfully completed the first quarter of enrollment and achieved initial eligibility for the grant.

The referred new student will receive up to a $1,000 grant awarded in even increments over two academic terms and applied to each subsequent academic session so long as all following conditions continue to be met.

The conditions are as follows:

  • The Alumni Referral Grant must be used exclusively towards future program charges.
  • Any graduate of AIU may refer a new student (not excluding PEC employees) for the Alumni Referral Grant by filling out the referral form located at: https://www.aiuniv.edu/alumni/referral-grant.
    • The referrer may refer as many students as he/she would like but will only be able to have two full grants in their name within a 365-day period.
    • For the purposes of this program, the 365-day period begins on the date the first portion of any grant has been awarded.
  • The Alumni Referral Grant recipient must be a student who has never previously started with AIU prior to his or her referral to AIU.
    • Individuals who have requested information from AIU in the 60-day period prior to the referral will not qualify as a referred student.
  • Candidates for the Alumni Referral Grant must apply and be accepted into the University to be eligible for this grant.
  • The new student must meet the points below to be and remain eligible for the Alumni Referral Grant:
    • Must not have started with AIU prior to their referral to AIU.
    • Must be in a full-time enrollment status.
    • Full quarter (two sessions) must be completed.
    • Student must meet satisfactory academic progress (SAP) within the completed quarter and thereafter to remain eligible for the scholarship.
  • The Alumni Referral Grant applies to all AIU Campuses (Atlanta, Houston, and Online).
  • Students are eligible for additional financial aid if they qualify.
  • All above conditions must be filled in order to receive the grant.

Impact Grant

In collaboration with select, participating employers, AIU has established the Impact Grant to assist eligible students with the opportunity to attend AIU. To be eligible for the Impact Grant, a candidate must complete the Impact Grant Acknowledgment form and must allow for verification of eligibility. Verification of eligibility may require the student to submit documentation of proof of employment with a participating employer.

Students must meet the criteria set forth in the Terms and Conditions document along with the following:

  • Students must be employed by an employer that has entered into a University Impact Grant Agreement with AIU at the time he/she completes the Impact Grant Acknowledgement form.
  • Students selected for the employment verification must provide documentation before the grant is disbursed. Documentation must show the effective date of employment and must be submitted after employment.
  • Additional conditions may apply based on specific Impact Grant Acknowledgement forms and based on specific conditions agreed upon between AIU and any individual participating employer.
  • The Impact Grant can be combined with Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefits.
  • The Impact Grant cannot be combined with any other Title IV aid programs, and participating students are required to waive Title IV participation as a condition of receiving the grant by signing the Impact Grant Acknowledgement ad Disclosure Forms.

The Impact Grant is available for degree programs specified by the University; not all programs may be eligible. All of the above conditions must be fulfilled before the grant can be disbursed.

AIU Academic Progress Scholarship

(Atlanta Campus Only)
Fashion Design and Media Programs Only

The scholarships that relate to specific degree programs and that are in honor of certain individuals are as follows:

  • Fashion Design, in honor of William Travilla
  • Media Production, in honor of Scott Wallace

The purpose of the AIU Academic Progress Scholarship is to recognize outstanding students who are about to enter their final 60 credit hours of study at AIU and who have demonstrated leadership potential, academic promise, and achievement in their respective Baccalaureate Degree Program. The scholarship award can be up to $3,000 and is to be used toward tuition and fees. The scholarship award will be disbursed by the University equally over three (3) academic terms for full-time students. The scholarship award will be disbursed by the University over five (5) academic terms for part-time students (11 credit hours or less.)

To be eligible for the AIU Academic Progress Scholarship, candidates must:

  • Have completed a minimum of 120 credit hours.
  • Have earned a minimum of 60 credit hours at the AIU campus where the award is being presented.
  • Maintain a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA or better while receiving the scholarship.
  • Show promise in their field of study.
  • Be recommended by a member of the University faculty through a letter of recommendation.
  • Enrolled in Fashion Design or Media Production program.

Disbursement of scholarship funds will commence during the first academic quarter of a student’s remaining 60 credit hours of study and continue to be disbursed in equal amounts over the next two (2) academic terms for full-time students and over the next four (4) academic terms for part-time students. In order to maintain eligibility, scholarship recipients must continue to meet all AIU academic standards and policies as a matriculating student.

The scholarship is non-transferable and non-substitutable and cannot be combined with the AIU Success Grant. No portion is refundable. No cash payments will be awarded to the student.

AIU International Scholarship

The AIU International Scholarship is awarded to international students whose academic record is considered worthy of recognition. The scholarship award can be up to $8,000 per academic year and is to be used toward tuition and fees for study in any bachelor’s or master’s degree program. The scholarship will be disbursed proportionately throughout the length of each program. Students who receive the scholarship for a bachelor’s program and wish to continue in a master’s program must reapply to receive the scholarship for that program.

Students must adhere to the AIU General Grant and Scholarship Conditions. The grant may not be combined with any other scholarship or grant.

To be eligible for the AIU International Scholarship, candidates must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better (or its international equivalent) from either high school/secondary school or college, which is verified as part of the international transcript review process outlined in the catalog. Although AIU does not require GRE or GMAT scores for graduate admissions, master’s degree scholarship applicants may provide test scores as an alternative to the GPA requirement (minimum of 300 for GRE, and 550 for GMAT).
  • Be defined as an international student. Students planning to attend a U.S. campus must submit a completed I-20 form with their Application for Admission to support the issuance of their student visa.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student at AIU.
  • Submit an application which includes all required elements, including an essay.

AIU International Student Grant

In recognition of the variation in local economic conditions around the world, AIU has established a grant in order to assist eligible international students from select countries interested in attending a degree program at AIU. To be eligible for the International Student Grant, a student must be referred by a third-party that has a written agreement with AIU, complete the eligibility attestation form, and allow for verification of eligibility, which may require the student to submit documentation confirming that they are a resident of an eligible country. Students who are eligible to receive Title IV funds are not eligible for this grant. Students must adhere to the AIU General Grant and Scholarship Conditions. The grant, which is subject to availability, is applied to tuition, fees and course materials and will be awarded proportionately over each applicable academic year. Tuition grant percentages may vary by country. Interested students should contact the Education Alliances Center at AIUEducationalAlliances@aiuniv.edu to determine the grant percentage for which they may qualify.

AIU Language Center Grant for International Students

AIU has established a grant in the name of its language center partners in order to assist international students with the opportunity to enroll in a degree program at AIU. To be eligible for the Language Center Grant for International Students, a student must be referred by a language center that has a written agreement with AIU, be enrolled full-time, complete the disclosure form, and allow for verification of eligibility. This may require the student to submit documentation to confirm that s/he has attended an eligible language center prior to the first day of class at AIU. The Language Center Grant is a resource for international students. U.S. residents or Title IV eligible non-citizens are not eligible for this grant. Students must adhere to the AIU General Grant and Scholarship Conditions. Eligible students receive an institutional grant toward the published tuition rate resulting in a reduced tuition as low as $9,000 per academic year.
