The 2018 Outstanding Alumni Services award was presented to ASCJ and BSCJ graduate, Penny Fowler. Penny currently dedicates her time as an Alumni Mentor and Ambassador in AIU’s Alumni Association. Since joining the Alumni Mentor Program, Penny has been a mentor to 12 students. She then naturally transitioned into the role of an Alumni Ambassador in March 2018 and has been able to connect with 8 tentative AIU students who were interested in attending AIU. Like many other fellow alumni, Penny genuinely cares about helping others achieve their goals at AIU. Even when she started as a student at AIU in 2015, helping others was always a top priority of hers: “I had a responsibility to my fellow classmates to provide positive encouragement in their journey to success.” Penny encompasses the true meaning of “AIU Pride” and has built strong, lasting rapports with many of her advisors, instructors, and other AIU employees. “I believe I [have] a responsibility to my instructors and advisors, to always put forth my best effort within the learning atmosphere.” Shared Penny.
Even when Penny first started as an Alumni Mentor in June 2017, she always made sure to go above and beyond when supporting her mentees professionally, academically, and personally. Whether it be sharing tips on how to improve intellipath® scores or offering advice on how to improve time management skills, Penny has an ability to motivate and help others strategically plan for their futures.
Penny is also a proud member of Phi Sigma, a Georgia Chapter of the Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society and graduated Summa Cum Laude after obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice with a Specialization in Corrections and Case Management. She continues to support and encourage others in AIU’s Alumni Association. “The positive impact that AIU projected towards me, enhanced my ability to ‘pay-it-forward’ with further positive impacts in other areas. In summary, my personal, academic, and professional journeys continue, as does my Alumni journey!” We are thrilled to honor Penny for the 2018 Outstanding Alumni Services Award!
