AIU Houston: Committed to the Military
American InterContinental University (AIU) is proud to be a military-supportive college with a campus located in the Houston area. We strive to support our active duty, reserve and veteran students through military education benefits like tuition reduction, transfer credit opportunities, and institutional grants and scholarships. Service members and veterans have unique needs. Our five-week classes and online course offerings with a convenient AIU Mobile learning app can help make it possible to work through your degree at your convenience and on your own schedule.
As part of our commitment to being a military-supportive college, we've taken the necessary steps to become a Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) affiliate as well as a Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding for Post-Secondary Educational Institutions (DoD MoU) signatory.
AIU Houston Military Benefits
To help with the transition to college, we offer a number of education benefits for our military-affiliated students. As part of our dedication to honoring service members' sacrifice and ensuring affordable, accessible education, we offer tuition reduction for active-duty military students and members of the Reserves and National Guard. Active undergraduate military students qualify for a 45% reduction in tuition costs, and active military graduate students qualify for a 20% tuition reduction.
Additionally, we offer four grant programs** exclusively for our active-duty military students, veterans and their families
College Credits for Military Experience
At AIU Houston, we review military-earned skills and offer credit for qualifying military training and experience*. During the admissions process, our Prior Learning Assessment Evaluators will review your Joint Services Transcript (JST) for any military credits you may qualify for based on your MOS, AFSC or NEC.
For example, our MOS Pledge provides students with the opportunity to earn credit for previous military training and experience based on your MOS Code, with a U.S. Army M1 Armor Crewmen (19K-004) automatically qualifying for at least 36 credits toward a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. A Prior Learning Assessment Evaluator will also help determine if you're eligible for any additional military college credit based on other training and certifications.
Transition Assistance Programs
AIU support services are available and ready to help our military students manage the challenges of pursuing a degree. The DoD's Transition Assistance Program (TAP) also offers resources for service members transitioning from military to civilian life in the form of weekly seminars, professionalization services, and assistance understanding and using veteran's benefits, separation pay and entitlements.
If you're ready to make the transition from military service to student life, consider enrolling in American InterContinental University. Request more information from our admissions department.
*Transfer credit is evaluated on an individual basis. Not all credits are eligible to transfer. See the University Catalog for transfer credit policies.
**University grants or scholarships are based on established criteria as published in the University's catalog and are awarded after verification that the conditions of eligibility have been met. Financial aid is available for those who qualify.
