Ten Types of Business Degree Specializations
A degree may open the door to a variety of opportunities and diverse career paths. The degree programs offered at AIU will not necessarily lead to the featured careers. This collection of articles is intended to help inform and guide you through the process of determining which level of degree and types of certifications align with your desired career path.
Business degree programs typically cover skills and knowledge that can be applied across various industries, fields and career paths. The versatile general business skills and principles typically studied in a business administration program, for example, may be adapted to fit the needs of both large and small organizations or used by entrepreneurs trying to establish or run their own businesses successfully.
There are not only different types of business degree fields (e.g., business administration, healthcare management, accounting) to choose from but also, potentially, different types of business degree specializations to choose from. With a specialization, instead of choosing your own electives from an institution’s list of business courses, you take a predetermined set of elective, business-related courses. Pursuing a specialization is one way to help focus your studies on an area that particularly interests you and which complements your program’s set of core business related courses. In this article, we will discuss ten of them:
- Accounting
- Business Management

- Marketing
- Entrepreneurship
- Human Resource Management
